News
www.freerepublic.com - Probably beats out even the Drudgereport in the speed at which breaking stories are posted. All stories are posted by readers, who comment on the story below. Moderators make sure that stories aren't duplicated and that the news is breaking. Readers post into various categories so that groups of stories are easily sorted and made available for the interested reader. Members develop 'ping lists' in which they notify you when stories relevant to a particular topic become available. For example, I am on the Black Conservative ping list, the North Carolina ping list, the Libertarian ping list and the Public Schools ping list. It is a very conservative site, but every news story will be posted. Frequently 'biased' stories are posted just so the members can mock them. The comments posted below the news stories are great, not just for the (conservative) humor, but also because they critique inaccuracies in the story, or offer other information/links that one can follow up on. Here is a statement from the founder. Sometimes extremists will post offensive comments, but moderators attempt to keep things civil. I post under the name traviskicks.
www.drudgereport.com - A centrist news source, with perhaps a slight conservative bias, Matt Drudge posts links to all the top stories of the day. Updated in real time, you'll be hard pressed to find any place with quicker breaking news. Funny pictures, sirens and changing font place emphasis on the most exciting stories. Also, Drudge does reporting of his own. News outlets will often leak him excerpts from big stories they are doing the next day to generate hype.
www.news.google.com - Giant algorithms, search and sort news stories by category. The structure of the algorithms is such that many technology stories get bumped to the front. Also, the stories tend to cater towards all English speakers, not just Americans. Thus, the stories given most prominence tend to slant to the left, but not all.
www.realclearpolitics.com - Each morning around 7am this site is updated with all the top stories found in the papers. They emphasize editorials and opinionated columnists. It is a conservative site, but often includes other opinions. Also, they compile poll data from all the recent polls and average them together, giving the most accurate information on political races anywhere.
www.clubforgrowth.com - Exclusively Conservative site. The Club for Growth is an outstanding political organization. If anyone is thinking about contributing or is contributing money to candidates, I recommend funneling all donations through them. These are the people that keep the Republican establishment on the defensive and keep them from becoming fat and lazy. They post economic stories each morning, which are very educational and interesting. They also post updates on their sponsored candidates and political races around the country. The president, Stephan Moore, is a fun-to-read, hard hitting writer. Here is his recent email for the 2004 Senate Races. Now the Pres is Pat Toomey. If I could only recommend one site for people to visit regularly out of all the links on this page I'd pick this one.
www.rushlimbaugh.com - Exclusively Conservative site. After each monologue you can view stories that link to the subject matter. Many stories link to conservative news outlets, but a large percent are from the mainstream press. Rush is a hilarious, sometimes deadly accurate commentator. Occasionally, he will slant the news from the mainstream press to the Conservative side. Most of the time this just takes the filter off the mainstream press, but occasionally he will emit important information and occasionally distort information. Any bombshell news from Rush should be corroborated elsewhere. Must visit site!
www.washingtonpost.com - Left of center site, especially their Editorial board. They have some conservative opinion columnists. On regular news stories they deliver news stories strait down the middle about 60% of the time (not a bad percentage), 40% is slanted leftward. It is updated fairly quickly, but all stories are by Washington Post journalists. They often have online chats with guests, where you can submit questions. About 1/3rd of the time your questions are answered! Most interesting are their long investigative reports, which are often the most informative of any newspaper. Michael Dobbs is a great investigative reporter who writes long, accurate, non partisan reports. A rare reporter!
www.wsj.com - In my opinion the Wall Street Journal is the most professional newspaper in the world. Accuracy, depth and historical perspective are unmatched. Their editorials are hard hitting and are generally Conservative - although not Republican. Republicans take a lot of heat from the Wall Street Journal Editorial page. Unfortunately, I just lost my subscription. www.opinionjournal.com is a free site, but offers only opinion pieces and they are of lower quality then the editorials.
http://www.techcentralstation.com Intelligent, informative news often from a free market economic perspective with science often mixed in. Pretty sweet site. Libertarian/Conservative based, but it's dead center factually (in my opinion).
http://www.reason.com/ A Libertarian orientated magazine type site with frequent, although not universal, thoughtful and informative opinions and information.
http://www.thebigproject.co.uk/news/ - Huge list of newspapers, international ones translated into English are interesting.
www.townhall.com - Publishes a large number of conservative columnists. Updated regularly.
www.rollcall.com - Strait from the Center. Cover details from Washington and political maneuverings.
www.hillnews.com - Same as above
www.newsmax.com - Ultra Conservative site. Funny tone and hard hitting. Occasionally good investigative reporting. Trust but verify. Occasionally kooky.
www.worldnetdaily.com - Conservative site. Conservative stories found nowhere else. Sometimes sensationalist...
www.washingtontimes.com - Right of Center news site.
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/fronts/HOME - Left of center groupings from the Associated Press. Good variety.
www.foxnews.com - Centrist news site. Not too exciting through. Bill O'Reilly transcripts are neat.
www.C-span.org - Great place to watch videos. Non partisan.
www.cbsnews.com - Left of Center news site- good free video, but often quite biased.
www.latimes.com - Far left of Center news site. Hates Cali Governor (R)nold Swarzeneger.
www.nytimes.com - Far left of Center news site.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/ - Liberal news site. Good for international news.
www.iht.com/ - Same as above.
http://english.aljazeera.net/ - More or less an Arab propaganda site. Sometimes humorous just to see what they are saying. Occasionally they will actually have accurate news that is found nowhere else. I sometimes enjoy their economic reporting.
www.arabnews.com - same as above. I had extensive correspondences (although it was more just me contributing :)) with one of site's writers, Dr. Khaled Batarfi. Occasionally Dr. Batarfi would place all comments he received on one of his articles on the web or in emails. One was published on Al-Jazeera and my comments were included. (this is what we were commenting on: 'The Beautiful American')
www.memri.org/index.html - Very interesting Israeli based site. Translates Arab media that wouldn't normally be available to western media into English. Often have breaking news found nowhere else in the world. Sometimes the mainstream media doesn't pick up on this and I often wonder how accurate their stories are. Also, they have video clips of some disgusting propoganda shown on public television in some Arab countries (like Jews killing Arab children to add their blood to their matzo and reports on the discredited forgery 'protocols of Zionism'). Must visit site.
Fact Checkers
www.spinsanity.com - Ever so slightly left of center, but very, very good breakdowns of issues and spin.
www.factcheck.org - I cannot detect any variation from center. Great site.
http://mediamatters.org/ - Liberal fact checker that keeps an eye on the Conservative media. I'd say about 7/10 times very good points are made, and they correctly identify Conservative spin. The other times they are just spinning themselves. (in my opinion) Hilarious section on Rush Limbaugh.
www.mediaresearch.org/ - Identifies Liberal bias in the media. Their job is a lot easier then mediamatters! Shows how partisan the main stream media is.
http://www.opensecrets.org/ You can type in a name and find out who they donated to in the last election cycle. Also details political contributions of other groups.
If you haven't visited any of these sites (especially the first two) I urge you to because the more people are aware of what the politicians and the media do, the less they will be able to do it.
Institutes
www.nationmaster.com - Not an institute but a great site for comparing statistics from different countries.
http://web2.iadfw.net/scsr/Think.htm A GREAT site on the national debt and the deficit by Steve Conover. If someone disagrees with this Steve I'd like to hear the rebuttal. He was kind enough to answer some questions I had via email. Also read a book called 'the Deficit Lie', that agrees with this Steve's points.
www.heritage.org - Heritage Institute. Conservative think tank. Very high quality stuff.
www.cato.org - Cato Institute. Libertarian think tank (Libertarians are generally liberal on social issues, but conservative on government and foreign policy [although the Libertarian party doesn't support the Iraq war]). IMO, the best source of learning about government and economics can be found here.
www.brook.edu/ - Brookings Institute. Left of Center think tank.
www.urban.org - Urban Institute. Liberal think tank.
www.foreignaffairs.org/ - Publishes monthly issues containing articles by leading or ex world leaders on a variety of subjects. Non partisan and very informative. Very slightly left of center. (just cuz of who they get to write I think)
www.newamericancentury.org - Conservative, the so-called neoconservative think tank. (interestingly, some people thought the name of this website means I endorse them.. lol)
www.epionline.org/ - Publishes studies about the minimum wage.
http://www.cbpp.org/ - Center On Budget and Policy Priorities. Liberal think tank.
These are the ones I have experience with. Others can be found and labeled accordingly, although I can't vouch for the accuracy of the labeling, at this site:
http://www.clubforgrowth.org/links.php

Miscellaneous
Eject! Eject! Eject! - Sanctuary (Posted 5/2105) 5/18/05 Bill Whittle...... ... ... ... ... ... .. WOW! I sometimes post 'must reads' etc.. on this site, but this is a must, must, must, must, must read. I have never read this man before; he is not only a deadly accurate commentator, but an absolutely magnificent writer. This is some of the highest quality stuff I have EVER seen. I've added him to my favorite links and intend to go back and read every one of his archived essays when I get some time. Please consider passing this one on to others. Some people commenting on this said it was the best thing they had ever read on the internet.
www.rinfret.com/ - An eccentric, opinionated 80 year old economist. He once ran for governor of New York and has served under in administrations of both political parties. He writes extensively on his experiences. Especially interesting are candid views on famous people he knew and his experiences in World War II. He seems to be a bit egocentric and often appears angry, but he is fun to read.
http://www.fortunecity.com/emachines/e11/86/index.html - Personal site of someone with a wide range of hobbies. Especially interesting are his science articles and theories.
http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/warstat1.htm - Twentieth Century atlas death tolls. VERY interesting site, especially for those interested in history and comparisons of atrocities. Graphs and charts and other tidbits scattered throughout this site.
http://waronline.net - Fun strategy game site.
http://www.tedgarber.com - A master solo guitar player that has inspired the formation of the Ted Garber fan club.
Blogs
http://www.blackinformant.com A site run by a guy named Duane who is a fairly prolific writer and considers a wide range of views. As the name suggests, he deals almost exclusively with African American issues. He's posted excerpts from this site and I get a fair amount of traffic from his site. His link to this site is called negroperspectives. I like it. :)
http://timworstall.typepad.com/timworstall/ A prolific blogger and author at the well respected Techcentralstation.com. Conservative commentator. http://timworstall.typepad.com/timworstall/2005/02/more_on_the_tsu.html is his link to my piece on the Tsunami. lol - he called it extreme. :)
